A Little Mermaid and Ariel themed party is one that is suitable for any girl under the age of about 14.  Anything older and the girl might be feel like shes a little too mature for a party like this.  Likewise, too young and the children might not exactly understand what the party is about.  A Little Mermaid and Ariel party should have extravagant undersea decorations.  You could have large replicas of each of the characters including Ariel, her sisters and father, the crab and the man she meets on land.  This would give the party a more realistic feel. It would also be prudent to install a PA system so that you could play the Little Mermaid theme song, Under the Sea, for the duration of the party as background noise.  This too would give the party a more realistic feel.  The cake for a party like this could be very intense.  If you want to go all out, you could hire cake professionals to create a replica of Ariel sitting on the rock in the sea, which would surely be a huge hit at the party.  Theinvitations for a party such as this could be very fun.  If you have the funds to hire singers it might be fun, instead of traditional party invitations, to deliver a song invitation where they sing about the party to the tune of the Little Mermaid theme song, Under the Sea.  So get those party invitations out and get ready to have a blast, Under the Sea.
